Ruth Ellen (Kreger) Brown

Ruth Ellen Brown, 91, died August 17, 2019 at Medicalodge of Kinsley. She was born July 8, 1928, in Hodgeman County near Jetmore, KS. the daughter of Amel and Ellen (Webber) Kreger. Ruth attended Buckner Valley school through the 8th grade and Dodge City Junior High. Her freshman year she moved to Raymond, KS. and graduated high school at Alden High. She went on to attend The School of Nursing at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, KS. She attended the LPN program at Dodge City Community College in 1958 and was the first graduate of the school. In 1970, Ruth attended Garden City Community College and received her RN degree. She graduated with the first class there as well. Ruth worked as an LPN and RN at Trinity and Western Plains Hospitals in Dodge City for over 40 years. She worked her way up from ER nurse to House Supervisor. She loved being a nurse and never forgot her patients.

Ruth and Walter enjoyed fishing, including a fishing trip to Canada. They enjoyed traveling also and made several trips to Maryland, Missouri and Idaho to visit their son and family. After Walter passed away, Ruth continued to travel extensively throughout the U.S., including an Alaskan cruise. Ruth and her daughter enjoyed a trip to Switzerland together.

She is survived by her son Richard Smith of Smelterville, ID. and her daughter Barbara Looney of Kinsley, KS. 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A graveside service is planned for 11:00 am on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the Peace Lutheran Cemetery north of Kinsley, KS. Memorial can be given to Hospice of the Prairie or Medicalodge in care of the funeral home.
