Barbara Montgomery Davenport, 94, of Bucklin, Kansas, passed away on December 23, 2024, at Hill Top House. Born on October 4, 1930, in Staffordville, Kansas, she was the daughter of Chester and Mary Schlup.
Barbara married George Montgomery in 1961. Following his passing, she found love again with Frank Davenport, whom she married in 2006. The couple enjoyed many joyful moments together, particularly through their shared passion for dancing.
During her residency in Kinsley, Barbara led a vibrant life, raising seven children while also pursuing a fulfilling career at Kinsley Bank, where she worked for 26 years. In addition to her professional commitments, Barbara was an active member of her community. She participated in a bowling team, traveling to numerous National Bowling Tournaments, and contributed her leadership skills as a member of the City Council, serving as Mayor for several years.
Barbara also cherished her love for horses, dedicating time to teach young people how to ride. She was involved with the South Central Show Horse Association (SCSHA) and the Edwards County Saddle Club, promoting equestrian activities in her community.
Barbara's commitment to education was exemplified through her service on the USD347 school board, where she took great pride in personally handing diplomas to her two youngest children at their high school graduation.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband George Montgomery, her son Rodney Spreier, her daughter Cindy (Speier) Richardson, and her great-granddaughter Haley Habiger.
Barbara is survived by her husband Frank Davenport, her children Jana (Mike Herrmann) Simmon of Kinsley, Terry (Betty) Spreier of Oklahoma City, OK, Shala Miller (Mike Donovan) of Kinsley, Barbara Kay (David) Carrier of Texas City, TX, and Keith Montgomery of Kinsley. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of family and friends who will remember her warmth and generosity.
A memorial service to honor Barbara's life will take place on January 4, 2025, at 2 PM at McKillip's Memorial Chapel in Kinsley, Kansas.
