LeRoy “Sonny” Eugene Sawyer

LeRoy, 85, was born in Lewis, Kansas on June 16, 1940. He was a beloved son, father and friend to many. He passed away April 7, 2026, at Edwards County Hospital. He graduated Lewis High School in 1958. He graduated from Pratt Community College and Fort Hays State University. LeRoy worked at Cross Manufacturing for nearly 58 years. On November 20, 1965, he married Carolyn May Felder. LeRoy was a lifetime Lewis resident. He volunteered many years for the Lewis Fire Department, Lewis Christmas Committee, Lewis Days Bingo, track meets and ran the scoreboard at basketball games. In his free time, he liked woodworking, watching westerns, Kansas City Chiefs, NASCAR, and going to the races in Dodge City. He spent many vacations in Colorado with his family and friends.

He was a member of the St. Bernards Catholic Church in Belpre, Kansas.

LeRoy was preceded in death by both his parents and son Roland Sawyer. Survived by wife Carolyn Sawyer, son Ronald Sawyer, 3 granddaughters and 6 great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and a burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Lewis Fire Department.
