Lyle Dean Divis, 75, of Lewis, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on September 15, 2026.

Lyle was born on March 17, 1951, in Ashland, Nebraska, to Gerald and Gladys (Moravec) Divis. He graduated from Ashland Nebraska High School in 1969. He went on to earn his Diesel Mechanic degree from Nebraska VoTech in Milford, Nebraska. On February 12, 1977, he married Lenice (Fox) Divis at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kinsley, Kansas. Together they built a life and family over nearly 50 years of marriage.

Lyle spent his life doing what he loved—farming. A lifelong farmer and an incredibly hard worker, he took great pride in his work and in the land he cared for. And, as any farmer knows, there was never a shortage of conversation about the weather. Lyle rarely missed an opportunity to discuss the forecast, the rain—or lack of it—and what it might mean for the days ahead.

Many of Lyle's mornings began with coffee at the Co-op, visiting with friends before getting on with the day's work. It was a simple routine and one he enjoyed—a cup of coffee, familiar faces, and plenty of conversation.

When he wasn't farming, there was a good chance Lyle was thinking about, talking about, or working on a car. He had a lifelong love of cars and restored many throughout the years. Among his favorites was his 1969 Boss 302 Mustang, a car that held a particularly special place in his heart.

Lyle loved his sweet snacks. It was well known to just about everyone—perhaps everyone except Lyle—that Lenice, affectionately known as “GG” to their grandchildren, had to hide the good snacks around the house if she wanted any chance of them lasting.

Those who knew Lyle knew his stubborn and opinionated exterior, but they also knew the man underneath it. He was someone who could fix just about anything, an animal lover, and, above all, a man deeply devoted to his family. To his grandchildren, he was “Papa,” and there wasn't much he wouldn't do for his children and grandkids.

Lyle was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kinsley, Kansas. He was a member of the Santa Fe Trail Auto Club in Larned, Kansas. And a past board member of Southern Plains Co-op.

He is survived by his wife, Lenice Divis; his son, Scott Divis of Lewis, Kansas, and grandchildren Jacey, Jenna, and Tucker; his daughter, Jill Shephard and her husband, Brian, of Lawrence, Kansas, and grandchildren Mila Morrison and Brynlee Shephard; and his brother, Duane Divis and his wife, Carol.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Gladys Divis, and his brother, Leonard Divis, and his parents-in-law, Farold and Vera Fox.

Lyle leaves behind a lifetime of hard work, restored cars, conversations about the weather, mornings at the Co-op, hidden sweets, and a family who will forever miss their Papa.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kinsley, Kansas at 10:30am. Inurnment of Ashes to follow at Wayne Cemetery in Lewis, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Lewis Volunteer Fire Department in care of McKillip Memorial Funeral Home, Kinsley, Kansas.
