Lynn Earl Chaffin

In Memory of Lynn Chaffin

Today we remember Lynn Earl Chaffin. He passed on Thursday, August 20th, at 9:45 a.m. and is survived by his wife Marilyn, his sons Aaron, Benjamin, and Justin, in addition he had six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Born on Oct. 10, 1949, Lynn grew up in Sublette, Kansas on the family farm. He met Marilyn at Garden City Community College, and Lynn would continue on to study at Fort Hays State University, where he majored in accounting. Lynn and Marilyn were married on July 26, 1970. Lynn worked a number of different jobs throughout his life providing for his family, and he was always business minded. Whether it was building up a feedlot, driving goods in his semi, or selling BBQ every Saturday, Lynn always sought to strike out on his own in his efforts to make a good home.

He enjoyed sun tea, popcorn, gardening, hunting, and mechanics, but one of his main enjoyments, especially later in life, was racing. You could always find Granddad and Grandma driving around in their golf cart at the races.

Lynn was no stranger to hardships in his life, but he was a man who always sought to persevere, no matter what came his way. He always had a can-do, fix-it attitude when it came to anything broken, and though sometimes his solution involved a healthy amount of duct tape and superglue, his ability to repair and mechanic his way served him well in life, and his sons going forward.

Though nobody is perfect, Lynn was most certainly a man of faith, and he sought to instill that faith in his sons when they were growing up. He was in regular attendance at church in his later years despite his health, and he was eager to converse with others in the times of fellowship. His favorite verse was Psalms 23, and though he is no longer with us, we know that he is beside those quiet waters, and The Lord has restored his soul.
