Mica Nicholas Schnoebelen

February 11, 1962, December 7, 2025

When Mica Nicholas Schnoebelen came into this world on February 11, 1962, at the hospital in Kinsley, Kansas, Dr. Rene announced: “It’s a boy!” That was an understatement. From that time until his sudden death December 7, 2025, at his rural home near Fellsburg, he was a man’s man.

Mica was a farmer/stockman; fourth generation Edwards County resident; and member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Belpre, Kansas, where he was serving as church council member and lector. He was a current Edwards County Commissioner, having served over 18 years.

Mica was a strong man…not perfect by any means…he was a loyal friend, true to his word, and had your back when you needed it.

He loved sports, tending toward shooting sports and football. While attending schools in Lewis, Hays, Pratt, Great Bend, and Manhattan, he developed strong friendships, particularly with Greenback and Panther gridiron brothers. These friendships have endured over decades.

He graduated from GBHS in the class of 1980. While at Great Bend, Mica met a girls’ basketball star guard, Sherrie Rexwinkle, who was a friend of his sisters,’ also smart, cute and athletic. They married June 22, 1985, in Great Bend. The births of their daughter, Kelsey Ann, and son, Kade Orion, completed their immediate family of four. Sherrie taught in area schools. They did many 4-H projects, chased errant bucket calves, and built an admirable agriculture business. They credit Jordan Welch with being instrumental in their most recent achievements.

KC Chiefs and Kansas State University football were followed closely by the Schnoebelen family even in the years when it was slightly embarrassing. Mica’s support of the Chiefs began at an early age, when as a toddler he received a personal letter from Chiefs coach Hank Stram, recognizing him for his enthusiasm.

Some of his best sports memories were of hunting trips to Argentina with friends and family. He loved his family and was looking forward to being the #1 fan of his grandchildren. They call him Poppy.

Mica was a former Lewis Co-op board member; former Soil Conservation board member; a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus member Council 2131, Kinsley; a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member, Assembly No. 284, Spearville; former member of the Lewis Volunteer Fire Department; member of Trousdale Fire Department; and licensed First Responder.

He is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Sherrie; daughter, Kelsey Amy (Jordan); daughter-in-law, Megan (Aaron) Shriver, Wichita; parents, Nick and Mary Lou, Lewis; sisters Gwenda Waldron (Tom), Indiana; Sasha Allison (Todd) of Wilmore; and Kristi Ponte, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Kayley, Jordy and Jett Amy; Bristol, Sutton, and Kip Schnoebelen; numerous nephews, nieces and extended family.

He was pre-deceased by: his son, Kade; father-in-law Darrell Rexwinkle; and good friend Tom Stejskal.

Memorials may be given to either Lewis Fire Department or to Trousdale Fire Department in care of McKillip Memorial Funeral Home, Kinsley.
