Nancy Jo Konrade

Nancy Jo Kingry Konrade, 77, passed away on September 14, 2026, in Kansas City, Kansas.

Nancy was born on November 30, 1948, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Woodson and Norma Kingry. She joined her four sisters, Alberta, Charlene, Sandra and Connie, at the Kingry homestead in Hodgeman County. Another sister, Priscilla, would join them.

When Nancy was five, the family moved to the farm north of Kinsley in Edwards County.

Nancy attended the Kinsley Public Schools and graduated from Kinsley High School in 1966. She then enrolled at the University of Kansas and achieved her Bachelor of Arts in Education. She later would receive her Master of Arts in Education, completing her coursework while teaching full-time.

She began her teaching career in Kansas City, Kansas. After several years there, she moved to Inglewood, California, and taught in the Torrance Public School system.

Upon a visit to Kansas she reconnected with a former classmate, Dennis Konrade. They were married in California on June 14, 1980, and moved back to Kansas City, where Nancy resumed teaching. Denny passed away on August 18, 1982.

Nancy loved her nephews and nieces beyond measure and later this love extended to her grand-nephews and grand-niece. She was a constant presence and support to them. Her nephew, Creighton, came to live with her when he was nine and he remained with her until his graduation from high school.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Alberta Dennis, Sandra Hornung and Connie Coover; brothers-in-law Thomas Hyland, Courtney Coover and John Hearn; nephew Tim Hyland; and niece Angela Hyland.

Surviving are sisters Charlene Hyland and Priscilla Hearn; nephews and families Byron and Tracy Hornung, Cameron and Carson; Barclay and Meredith Hornung, Rori and Jake Huisman, and Gunnar; Creighton and Julie Coover, Grayson, Rylan and Weston; niece and family Jackie and Jeremy Corbett, Woodson and Gus; brother-in-law, George Hornung; and a niece-in-law, Annette Hyland and her daughters, Whitney Talmage and family, Ashley Skaggs and family, and Emily Skaggs and family.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 3rd at the Congregational Church of Kinsley. A graveside service will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Kinsley.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the donor's choice in care of McKillip Funeral Home, Kinsley.
