Kenneth Brake Obituary

Kenneth Henry Brake, a resident of Laurel, MD from 1969 to 2008, formerly lived in Kansas, died March 24, 2008, at his residence.

He was born March 21, 1934, in Kinsley, KS, son of the late Anthony J. and Rose Marie (Nosal) Brake.  He was a graduate of Sts. Peter & Paul School, St. Joseph’s Military Academy, Hutchinson Community College, and Wichita State University.  He worked 30 years as an accounting auditor for the Government Accountability Office and worked for the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.  He was a member of St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, and an active volunteer with the City of Laurel. At the time of his death, he was still actively farming in Edwards County, Kansas.  He enjoyed walking and running marathons and completed three Marine Corp Marathons.  He was one of four Olympic torch bearers chosen by the city of Laurel when the torch passed through the area in 1984. His love of travel led him to visit all 50 states and many European countries and Russia.

He was survived by his wife of 53 years, Eleanoria; one son, the late Kevin Brake, three daughters, Vanesca McDermott (Marc),  Janet Brake, Amy Phillips (Jeff); grandchildren Timothy Brake and Audrey Brake-Lothman; great grandchildren Annika Brake, Skylar Brake, Jett Brake-Forshee, Landon Lothman, and Colt Lothman; sisters Bernadette Burkhart, Marge Brake, Theresa Brake and Jaye Brake; brothers, Larry Brake and Emmett Brake; his pet greyhound and walking companion, Guiseppe.

Mr. Brake was originally interred at the St. Mary’s Columbarium.  He is being re-interred at Sts. Peter & Paul in Kinsley, KS.

Graveside services only on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 10:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Kinsley, KS.
