Louis Ralph Wetzel, 79, died July 28, 2021 at his home. He was born April 4, 1942 in rural Ford County, Kansas, the son of Harry William and Helen(Kuhn) Wetzel. Louis was a 1960 graduate of Offerle High School. He married Gertrude Ann Schmidt on October 26, 1963 in rural Offerle. They owned and operated a farm and ranch in rural Offerle encompassing all areas of farm life; especially their love of the land on which his ancestor's homesteaded, raising crops and livestock. He loved to tinker in the shop fixing implements sometimes on a daily basis.
Louis is survived by sons Ron Paul Wetzel of Topeka and Scott William Wetzel of Sylvia; brother Alan Leroy Wetzel of Offerle; grandchildren Cassidy Nicole Wetzel and Austin (Cynthia) Wetzel and great-grandson, Braxton Kale Shelite. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude, on January 19, 2016; brother Robert William Wetzel; sisters Elvira June Setzkorn and Bonnie May Drewes.
Visitation at McKillip Funeral Home, Kinsley, Sunday, Aug. 1, from 9am -5pm. Vigil will be held at 7pm Sunday, Aug. 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Offerle, and Funeral will be held at 10:30am Monday, Aug. 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Offerle, with Father James Mainzer officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery north of Bucklin( 1/2 mile south of 132 Rd. and Primrose Rd.) Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Prairie, in care of McKillip Funeral Home, Kinsley.
