Thomas L. Werner

Offerle - Thomas L Werner, 80,  passed away on June 25, 2023 at the Edwards County Hospital after an almost three year battle with cancer.

He was born on February 10, 1943 to Louise (Burkhart) and Joe Werner in Bellefont, Kansas. He attended grade school at St. Joseph in Offerle and graduated in 1961 from Windhorst High School. In 1976 Tom began a career working for Herrmann Farms, San Antonio, TX/Offerle where he continued working for forty-six years. Tom was the owner and operator of Werner Fencing. He constructed countless miles of barbed wire fencing throughout many Kansas counties. He had a strong work ethic and continued building fences until seven months prior to his death. He leaves behind his two loyal employees of many years Juan Castaneda and Lorenzo Romero. Tom enjoyed riding horses, working with cattle and playing billiards. Many of his friends have gone before him and he leaves many behind. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor and generous spirit.

On August 8, 1964 Tom married Jane Hornung at Windhorst, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors are their three children Lynn Maud, Sheila Werner and Joe (Jamie) Werner; his sisters Sue Kramer and Marietta (John) Strecker; grandchildren Garrett (Kelsie) Klenke, Roger Klenke, Ryan Klenke, Madison Maud, Mason Maud;  one great grandchild Grayson Klenke; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his brother, Ron and son-in-law Dean Maud.

Rosary, followed by a Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Offerle, Kansas with Father Benjamin Green presiding. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to: Prairie Home Health and Hospice or the Edwards County Hospital Auxiliary.
